About This Project

Working closely with Brookgreen Gardens’ staff and the design/build team, Environmental Concepts is honored to have been a part of the eponymous pavilion project.

In addition to Site Development Plans, Environmental Concepts helped with locating and sizing the pavilion, named for Trustee Emeritus Don Leonard.  Adjacent and on-axis to Brookgreen’s Lowcountry Center, it takes advantage of sweeping views to the historic rice fields, immersing users in the pastoral beauty of the arboretum.

The new pavilion and ancillary elements are nestled into the site, preserving circulation through the arboretum and along the historic Magnolia Allee while protecting the existing Live Oaks and providing much-needed, permanent space for education programs and special events – a truly complimentary structure for the Lowcountry Center!

Accommodating locations for numerous potted plantings as well as sculpture from Brookgreen’s collection, the pavilion seats 400 for larger events, weddings, etc., with an adjacent pre-function patio space which can be easily converted to tented space, when needed.
