For guests visiting the Lowcountry Zoo at Brookgreen Gardens, that feeling of being certain you’d found the right place had always been a bit of a struggle.
Using traditional Lowcountry construction materials including old solid brick and oyster shell tabby, Environmental Concepts defined the sense of arrival with interconnected plazas whimsically nestled into the sloping topography, affording users with a place to gather and relax within the brand new Lowcountry Zoo Entrance Garden.
The inviting spaces are embraced with seat walls, a new fountain basin displaying Anna Hyatt Huntington’s Wildlife Column, Bronze 1963, is the focal point of the second plaza.
There are custom-designed banner and hanging basket poles that enhance the festive atmosphere. Site, sign, and fountain lighting allow for zoo operations to continue into dusk during the shorter days of winter.
