2005 Arbor Day Building with Trees National Award of Excellence
Winner of the 2005 “Building with Trees,” National Arbor Day Award of Excellence, the Grande Dunes Boulevard was planned around a heavily treed area. Serving as the main artery for a 2,200-acre development, the planning and design of the boulevard included the creation of a system to preserve trees and shrubs. This protocol included inventory of trees and shrubs, accommodation of significant vegetation, transplanting, pruning, and sturdy root zone fencing. Modified grading and storm drainage helped to protect crucial root zones.
